The STERN.History of the Foeger Family 1907 – 2007
Our family has been running the traditional tavern in Obsteig for exactly 100 years. With pride and respect we can look back on a wonderful history.
For this occasion we came up with some special ideas: from our “100 Offers” and anniversary evenings to the big celebrations taking place in autumn 2007.
We would be delighted if you could celebrate with us

A short summary of 100 years of family Foeger
The history of the tavern-owning family actually reaches back much further. First records date back to 1509. But today we celebrate the hour of birth of today’s STERN and this is why the story starts in...
1907
when Franziska and Alois Foeger decided to leave a restaurant on the Fernpass to try their luck somewhere else. They were fascinated by the Mieminger Plateau with its scenic and unique tranquility resulting in the purchase of the tavern STERN with all its agricultural surroundings.
1915
Alois died after suffering an injury in the First World War. From this point on, Franziska managed the STERN herself with the help of her parents and loyal employees. Franziskas’ children also helped her to run the STERN in later years.
1949
Adele and Hermann came together, tied the knot and dedicated their time to the well-being of their guests. Since then, Adele has treated our guests with her famous apple strudel which Franziska taught her to bake. As well as being a very welcoming host, Hermann was also a passionate farmer who devoted a lot of time and care to looking after the animals and fields.
1960
An extension was built with no less than 20 rooms with running water and plenty of bathroom facilities along the hallways
1977 After Hermann suffered a heart attack, Hermann junior and Roswitha took over the business. At that time a large conversion took place and the gable of the main building was turned around – this was the beginning of a new era which gave the building the appearance it has today
1977 – 1988
Making holidays in the mountains was in fashion and more and more people were becoming acquainted with the beautiful natural scenery of the Mieminger Plateau. Thanks to former tourism pioneers the natural landscape of the region was not spoiled – we are still very thankful for that. At that time, Rudolf von Habsburg, son of the last k.u.k. emperor also honoured us with a visit.
1989
The last big modification was made at STERN. Another floor was added, a new wing at the north side was built and nearly all of the guest rooms were rebuilt. And so the house continues to provide high standards in modern living comfort.
2004
The next generation. Hermann now runs the business together with his oldest son Rene.
2007
STERN – same old, same old ... A hotel with high quality standards, a personal and family atmosphere and roots which go back to the traditional tavern business. The idea of a Tyrolean tavern is as a place where people can get together and HUANGARTEN (Tyrolean for amusing oneself). And this is how it should remain for the next 100 years.
